Privacy Policy — Companion Emojis
Last updated: June 25, 2026
Ottopedia Companion Emojis is a browser extension that replaces a small set of emoji characters with painted artwork of the Ottopedia cast on web pages you view. The short version: it keeps your settings on your own device and, only if you choose to connect your account, asks the Ottopedia server which character faces you’ve unlocked. Nothing else is collected.
What it stores (on your device only)
Saved in the browser’s local extension storage and never sent anywhere except as noted below:
- Whether the extension is on/off, and whether “preview all faces” is on.
- The link code you paste in to connect your Ottopedia account (an access token).
- The Ottopedia server address you connect to (default ottopedia.app).
- The list of character faces you’ve unlocked, so it can render them.
What it sends, and to whom
- Only when you click “Connect”: the extension sends your link code to the Ottopedia server you configured, over HTTPS, to read back which faces you’ve unlocked. The link code is a signed token that identifies your account for this single read-only purpose; it does not expose your password or allow changes to your account.
- That is the only network request it makes. There are no analytics, no advertising, no third-party services, and no tracking of any kind.
What it never does
- It does not read, collect, store, or transmit the content of the pages you visit. It scans page text locally, in your browser, only to find the specific emoji to swap, and that text never leaves your device.
- It does not sell, rent, or share any data with anyone.
- It does not collect names, email, browsing history, or location.
Permissions, and why
- storage — to remember your settings and unlock list on your device.
- host access to the Ottopedia server — to fetch your unlock list when you connect.
- content script on pages — to swap the emoji in place as you read and type.
Your control
- Turn the extension off in its popup, or remove it, at any time.
- Clear all stored data by removing the extension or clearing its storage in chrome://extensions.
- The link code can be invalidated on the server at any time.
